We are very lucky to have Brooke Montgomerie from Stay fitness and Wellbeing join us and lead our sessions. Brooke takes us through a range of warm-ups, running techniques and activities that help us understand how we can use our minds and bodies as powerful engines.
Each session has a different focus. We might practice keeping our knees and feet lifted, making sure our arms don’t cross over our bodies when we run, or learning about how powerful our minds can be when things start to feel challenging. Brooke helps us understand that our minds can encourage us to keep going, even when we feel like giving up.
After our warm-up and learning focus, we take on a 12-minute run/walk around the oval. Students can collect a pop stick for every lap they complete. Students can choose to run as fast as they can and try to beat their personal record, enjoy a steady jog to get their bodies moving or take a relaxing walk around the oval with their friends.
Running Club is about so much more than just running. We are learning how to challenge ourselves, overcome obstacles and demonstrate resilience and persistence. We are also getting some extra fitness while enjoying the fresh air and spending time together.
One of our favourite things is seeing the huge smiles on students’ faces when they beat their personal best. They are so proud of themselves when they realise that their hard work and determination have helped them achieve something they didn’t think they could!
We are incredibly proud of the way our Year 3 students continue to keep moving, keep trying and believe in themselves.
