One of the highlights of the term so far was welcoming our incredible community into our school to celebrate National Reconciliation Week. This year’s theme, All In, perfectly reflects what we strive for at Port Lincoln Primary School every day.
At PLPS, reconciliation is not something we focus on for just one week each year. It is embedded in the way we learn, connect and work together. It is reflected in the way we include others, learn from one another, show respect for different perspectives and take pride in who we are and the cultures that make up our community.
Our students truly stole the show throughout the Reconciliation event. They spoke with confidence, pride and authenticity as they shared with our community what reconciliation looks and feels like at PLPS. Their ability to articulate the importance of belonging, inclusion and respect was something we should all be proud of.
Thank you to everyone who joined us throughout the week and helped make our celebrations so special. The strong support from our families and community reinforces the important role we all play in creating a school where every child feels seen, valued and connected.
As we head into the second half of the term, I look forward to continuing to celebrate the wonderful learning taking place across our school and the many ways our students demonstrate our values each day. I am sure many of you will have heard about our Maths Fact Fluency routines that all classes have engaged with. We are really focussing on efficient, speedy retrieval of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. Our students are competing with themselves to improve their speed and accuracy, and we hope that these tasks give them greater capacity to dive deeper into problem solving and the more complex areas of Maths – without the need to waste time thinking about basic mental computation.
Swimming is well under way and although we now have winter well and truly upon us, our students are thoroughly enjoying their lessons at the YMCA. SAPSASA events are in full swing which always brings excitement and we had the pleasure of hosting the Australian Maths Science school who ran a series of experiments with our Year 5’s.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our students, staff and school community.
